About Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct system of medicine that emphasizes prevention and the use of natural therapeutics to support health.  Naturopathic Medicine was developed in the United States over 100 years ago by Dr. Benedict Lust and has evolved into an integrative system of medicine that combines cutting edge diagnostic techniques and non-invasive therapies with an ancient philosophy of healing that draws on the holistic relationship of the body to nature.

Today, Naturopathic doctors are trained and licensed as primary care doctors, and are comfortable collaborating with your MD or other health practitioners to provide you with the most comprehensive care possible.  Licensed naturopathic doctors have undergone four years of medical school at an accredited Naturopathic Medical University and have passed a national licensing exam.  To understand the difference between naturopathic medical school and conventional medical school curricula, please click here.

Naturopathic Doctors are guided by the following 6 principles

  • The healing power of nature
  • First do no harm
  • Find the cause
  • Treat the whole person
  • Preventive medicine
  • Doctor as teacher
